Mark Your Calendars!

I have officially chosen a date to begin selling the sleuth kits! I chose  July 1 to give myself plenty of time to make a good amount of bags. Each bag will be different, so I will sell a bag to the first person who contacts me about it. You can contact me by commenting, and then after that I will get back to you by e-mail.  To find out when I post the new bags, you can subscribe to get updates by e-mail, or you could follow craftdgirlblog on twitter.

I also wanted to mention in this post another craft that I have recently made as a gift for a friend. I wanted to make a messenger bag out of duct tape, so I gathered zebra tape, black tape, and some index cards, and went to work. I used the index cards to give the bottom of the bag some support(this will also prevent the bag from sagging over time), and then covered it with duct tape.   I also wanted it to be a gift set, so I added a matching wallet to go with it. And- voila! A perfect gift to start the summer!

Check back soon!

Get Ready…

For about two months I have been working on the unique Nancy Drew inspired sleuth kits. I have chosen the color schemes according to the popular choices from the polls I have put up in the past, but I am also making a couple cute bags that I did not mention in the poll (which are my personal favorites!). I am still not sure what date I will begin the sale of  the bags, but I

promise that my next post will say the exact date. In addition to the sleuth kits, I may also sell a few other homemade crafts from this blog. The bags will only be on sale for a limited time only, so please keep checking back to see the start and the end dates.

The kits are a great Christmas present to any Nancy Drew fan, but I normally don’t sell the bags during Christmastime, so now would be the time to think about buying them for a very thoughtful gift. I will also offer a few packages, to give a detective just the right supplies for a mystery. Some may include a bag and a matching wallet, or maybe even a original bag with the mini, the choice will be yours! I will explain the specifics when I release the sale date.

If you want to know when I put up new posts in the future, you could follow craftdgirlblog on Twitter, or receive updates on my blog by e-mail!

Do you have any suggestions on new crafts you want me to try, or are  you interested in buying a sleuth kit this summer?? Don’t be shy, please comment below!   I would love to hear your feedback!

Sneak Peek!!!

Almost everyone who comes to this blog comes to see something made out of duct tape–mostly to take a look at my well-known Nancy Drew sleuth kit. Well, for about two months I have been working on “the surprise,”and although I am not finished yet I can’t help but tell you what it is….

…This is a picture of an unfinished mini Nancy drew sleuth kit. I decided to try making a mini kit because I have noticed that the originals could be a little too heavy for the younger detectives out there 😉 Preference will definitely make the final decision for the question: “The original bag, or the mini?” To help you out, I’ll give you a little more info (But, of course, you will get even more information when I am completely finished with the mini bag.)

The original bag is still perfect for you if you want all of the card slots, pockets, etc. in the front flap. The mini bag on the other hand, may be too small to fit as many pockets in the front. The mini bag will always have the magnifying glass, though( what is a Nancy Drew bag without the magnifying glass?!). Also, as I said before, the mini bag will be perfect for younger N.D. fans because it is about half the size of the original bag. (When I make the official post for the mini sleuth kit, I will put the exact measurements of both kits so that you can see the size difference, and a picture of them next to each other to show the contrast.)

You may be wondering why I am always mentioning how you can choose which you would like best, and how you can choose your preference…well, coming up this summer our famous Nancy Drew duct tape sleuth kits will be for sale!! Many people have asked to buy the sleuth kits, but I have been so busy I haven’t had time to make any. By this summer, though, I will have some bags made and ready to sell! Both the mini bag and the original will be for sale, so check back soon for more details!

P.S. Please comment and tell me what you think of the mini sleuth kit!

Nancy Drew Sleuth Kit V2.1 Plaid!

Well the other day I was making another Nancy Drew duct tape sleuth kit. I wanted to make it just like the “New and Improved” kit. Well the store i went to didn’t have any beige or white. I was about to despair, when… PLAID DUCT TAPE came to my rescue. This plaid kinda reminded me of the plaid inside the Nancy Drew movie sleuth kit. Here are the pictures:

The New and Improved Nancy Drew Duct Tape Kit Bag

Recently, I had a custom order to make a Nancy Drew Duct Tape Sleuth Kit.  The buyer wanted it to look similar to the sleuth kit in the Nancy Drew movie. This new bag is different from the original bag I had made. For instance, the straps are made of canvas material, I used Velcro instead of a buckle, and the overall design of the bag is different.  Here are the pictures of it(Sorry, but i am no longer selling these bags.):

Welcome to the new “TINY DUCT TAPE TOTE “ tutorial!! This tote measuring about 6″ wide,  3 1/4″  long,  and 4  3/4″ deep, is great for holding the smaller things of life. This may include anything from make-up to crayons.

To make this tote you will need:

1. two rolls of different color duct tape

2. scissors (not pictured)

3. a cutting board

4. an X-acto knife

5. a ruler

6. patience (very important)(not pictured)

_____________________________________________________

*Warning*

-Children should be supervised by an adult while doing this project due to the x-acto knife and scissors used

-Cutting duct tape with scissors tends to gum up the blades

-Duct tape is sometimes hard to work with and requires some patience until you get the hang of it

_____________________________________________________

Step 1: Make a piece of duct tape fabric 3 1/4 in. x 6 in. with your primary color(I used white). We will call this piece “A.” This will serve as the bottom of your bag.

Piece "A" 3 1/4 in. x 6 in. (bottom of the bag)

Piece "A" 3 1/4 in. x 6 in. (bottom of the bag)

______________________________________________________

Step 2: Make two 3 1/4 in. x 4  3/4in.  pieces of duct tape fabric with your secondary color( I used tie dye.) We will call these pieces “B” and “C.” These pieces will serve as the sides of the bag.

Pieces "C" and "D" 3 1/4" x 4 3/4" (sides of the bag)

Pieces "C" and "D" 3 1/4 in. x 4 3/4 in. (sides of the bag)

_____________________________________________________

Step 3: Make two 6″x 4  3/4″ pieces  of duct tape fabric with your primary color (I used white.) We will call these pieces “D” and “E.” These pieces will serve as the front and back of the bag.

Pieces "D" and "E" 6 in. x 4 3/4 in. (front and back of the bag)

Pieces "D" and "E" 6 in. x 4 3/4 in. (front and back of the bag)

Step 4: Now you have finished all the  duct tape fabric pieces you need to make the bag. This is what you should have so far:

Pieces "A","B","C","D" and "E"

Step 5: Now we will begin assembling the tote. Now take piece “A” and piece “B” and lay them next to each other with “A” to the left and “B” to the right.
